The Tamburlaine Hotel in Cambridge

The Tamburlaine Hotel is a brand new hotel that has opened in Cambridge just seconds from the train station on Station Road. It is not only a hotel but it also has conference spaces, a gym, beautiful restaurant area and bar, Garden room, Steam deli and library. Their name is borrowed from a Persian emperor in a play by 16th century dramatist and Cambridge alumni Christopher Marlowe. Their look is polished and contemporary with subtle accents of Persian influence and echoes of Cambridge’s old school charm.

The dramatic lobby sets the tone with soaring double height ceilings, a sweeping feature spiral staircase and cascading chandeliers. Staff are kitted out in plush velvets, traditional plaids and playful college stripes. Oversized, antique silk rugs and sumptuous velvet and leather armchairs invite visitors to relax by the open fire.

Guest rooms and suites are exceptionally spacious, elegant and generous, with handmade beds and crisp linens. Bespoke furniture and collected retro pieces add character and personality. The rooms come in three types; Freshman (classic), Don (executive rooms) and Dean (suites).

The bathrooms were a bloggers heaven being all marble with exclusive toiletries from The White Company in their Noir fragrance.

They have really thought of every little detail from old fashioned functioning phones to plug sockets by the bed. The desk area is also well catered for with USB ports in the walls and beautiful notebooks. They also have fine china for your own tea making facilities in the room plus a minibar.

Shared spaces flow easily into one another. The lobby is overlooked by The Library. A dramatic light well above the Bar opens up into the first floor.

The Garden Room is where afternoon tea is served and its a different style to the lobby that you walk through to get to it. I tried one of the chocolate macaroons and it was so delicious I am certainly going to go back for an afternoon tea!

We went into the bar after our tours and tried out some of mixologists work. I went for a mint julip mainly for the copper cup it came in. The marble theme continued through to the bar and made it so photo worthy.

The bathrooms in the lobby were also notable for the palm based décor and of course White Company Noir hand wash and lotion.

I'm going to leave the post here because its getting very long because I took so many pictures of the hotel because its so beautiful, but you may see some more over on my Instagram @mycopperhaven

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick

On my trip to London for the Glamour Beauty Festival I stopped off at Charlotte Tilbury's Boutique in Covent Garden to go and see what was new, it just so happened they had the new Pillow Talk lipstick. I tried it on in store and I was hooked! I had to order it online as they had sold out in store. I thought I would show you what also came with my order because of it being from her website I got some free goodies.

First off how beautiful is this packaging your order comes in! I love when companies make an effort in packaging just makes it feel more special!

With my lipstick I got to select samples on the checkout. I went with the Wonder Glow face primer and the Matte Revolution lipstick in Red Carpet Red. I also received the Scent of a Dream sample which smells so good. If you ever want Charlotte Tilbury goodies I do recommend ordering online because then you can get samples thrown in!

Here is the beauty that is the Limited Edition Pillow Talk Lipstick! For me it really is the perfect your lips but better lipstick. I have now gone on to purchase the matching liner but I find it works perfectly well without the lip liner. It definitely is one of the most beautifully packaged lipsticks I own and now has pride of place in my acrylic lipstick display stand. This is definitely for me one of the new products this year that are worth the hype.

Golden Egg Baked Chocolate Tart

Since Easter is coming up I thought I would upload this recipe I found on BBC good food for all those surplus Galaxy Golden Eggs. I haven't seen many recipes like this one so I thought I'd give it a go! I was really surprised how easy it was to make as well.

For the base:
  • 80g butter softened
  • 40g golden caster sugar
  • 120g self raising flour
For the filling:
  • 75g butter
  • 100g dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
  • 75g golden caster sugar
  • 50g plain flour
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 x 80g bags of Galaxy Golden Eggs
  • crème fraîche, to serve

  1. For the shortbread base, beat the butter and sugar together until light and creamy, then mix in the flour. Press the dough into the base of a 20-21cm tart tin and put in the fridge for 20 mins to harden.
  2. Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/ gas 4. Prick the base all over with a fork and bake in the centre of the oven for 15 mins until lightly golden.

3. Meanwhile, melt the butter and chocolate together in a saucepan over a low heat. Once melted, stir in the sugar and flour, then gradually beat in the eggs.

4. Pour the filling over the base and cover the top in Golden Eggs. Return to the oven and bake for 12-15 mins or until the fiilling is just set at the edges but the centre is still shiny and a bit wobbly. Remove from the oven and put in the fridge to chill. Can be made a day ahead and kept in the tin overnight. To release from the tin, warm the sides with a hot dishcloth for a couple of mins. Serve with crème fraiche.

Lush Chick'n'Mix Easter Bath Bomb

I love when Lush has a seasonal range out, so clearly I had to go pick up an Easter treat! Most years I go for the same type of bath bomb from the seasonal Easter range because it's so cute! I love when they bring out bath bombs with a hidden surprise especially as it lasts more than one bath! This year I restrained my self to buy all the Easter range and just picked up Chick'n'Mix.

The fragrance is sweet and zingy, with comforting Tonka Absolute and refreshing bergamot oil. I do find that it smells very much like the Lush store itself and sticks around on your skin after bathing! He also has little vegan dark chocolate eyes to keep with the Easter theme. I love the little hidden bunny inside the chick, especially as it means I can get three baths out of it!

This did make possibly the brightest yellow bath I have ever seen and same to be said for the blue half made the brightest blue bath I had seen.
